Terri Shine, Craft Enthusiast

Every sewer and quilter has a stash of fabric leftovers or offcuts that are too small to use in many projects.

In our workshop for HandUp Congo, you will learn how to transform strips of these fabrics into a twine that can be used in many different ways.

Fabric twine can be used as an alternative to ribbon for gift wrapping, in weavings, crocheting or sewing into baskets or mats. The uses are endless. Plus, when made from 100% cotton or natural fabrics, the twine is also compostable.

I am a “professional” craft enthusiast. I love trying new crafts but have always been drawn to playing with textiles and natural fibres.

Petra Weber,
Bookbinder

I am primarily a printmaker, painter and bookbinder. I have obtained training in these skills during my nomadic life in Europe, Australia and South Africa but I have taken up bookbinding in Sydney.

I am a member of the NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders where I teach classes at the Bindery in 'How to make your own Bookcloth', Suminagashi (Japanese marbling) and Japanese bookbinding.

Bookbinding has a long history and rich tradition with many possibilities to create new forms and purposes for this art/craft.
